Another Poll, Another Dead Heat

Once again, a poll comparing Washington's gubernatorial candidates shows the two of them in a statistical tie. This time an independent Rasmussen Poll shows Rossi leading Gregoire 47% - 46% with a margin of error +/- 4.5%. The poll was taken on February 28 and surveyed 500 likely voters. Gregoire has led in most polls taken so far, but only once has her lead exceeded the margin of error.

"There will be many polls released between now and November. But what this independent poll confirms is that this race is, and will remain, extremely close and competitive," said Rossi spokesperson Jill Strait. "I believe the desire for change will help us win this November by a recount-proof majority of votes."

In addition to the likely voting numbers, the two candidates shared nearly identical favorability ratings. The poll showed Rossi viewed favorably by 52% and unfavorably by 41%, while Gregoire had a 51% positive and 44% negative rating.

The same pollster showed Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama in a tight-knit race in Washington State for a potential Presidential matchup with McCain leading 45% - 44%, compared with a more significant 48% - 40% lead for McCain over Sen. Hillary Clinton.
