Rossi to launch 'one-night-only' TV ad for night of Obama's speech

Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi will be airing a special "one-night-only" television ad around the state Thursday night, his campaign said Wednesday.

The ad, set to correspond with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's speech before the Democratic National Convention is being targeted at voters from across the political spectrum, the campaign said in a release.

“Our campaign welcomes everyone – Republicans, Democrats or Independents – wanting to work in good faith to improve our state," Rossi spokeswoman Jill Strait said in the release.

"Dino’s proven he has the ability to work in a bipartisan fashion to fix some of our most challenging problems and that is something that people from across the political spectrum can get behind.”

The ad will be available for viewing on Rossi's website beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday. Rossi is running against Gov. Chris Gregoire in what The Pindell Report is calling the most competitive governor's race in the country.

Second time around: The benefits of running and losing

Politicker.com national political columnist Reid Wilson writes today about how some losers from the 2006 cycle are poised to winners this fall. That includes Democrat Darcy Burner, who is trying again to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert in the 8th Congressional District.

Writes Wilson:

The former sheriff has a strong field operation, but the district voted Democratic for U.S. Senate in 2004 and 2006, and for Al Gore and John Kerry. An area that was once barren of Democratic state legislators now sends a majority of Democrats to Olympia, the state capital. Burner, who has made her opposition to the war in Iraq a central part of her campaign and who has outraised Reichert, stands as good a chance as any Democrat ever has of winning the seat.
