SPOKANE -
The Democratic Party's Executive Board met this morning and endorsed Randy Dorn for Superintendent of Public Instruction.
PolitickerWA.com caught up with Dorn for a comment on the news.
"I am real happy. I think education is headed in a new direction and I am the one, I believe, that can get there. This is about the best thing for kids in the state of Washington. I believe that the people of the state of Washington have been talking to OSPI and their legislators and the Democratic Party and saying, ‘we need to replace the WASL.'
"I believe it needs to be shorter. It needs to be hooked up with technology. It needs to be diagnostic so we can help kids and parents and teachers to improve student learning. That is what it's about."
Asked if his candidacy was a referendum on the WASL, Dorn had this to say.
"I think it is a referendum on the twelve years Terry [Bergeson] had to make the difference that she could make, and I think people are looking for a change. I think it is kind of on the Obama thing that we have had this leadership and we just can't quite get there so we need new ideas, not one idea...Let's take a clean, new look at how we're going to improve student learning, because that is what it is all about."
While some Democrats had been turning to sites like eBay and Craigslist hoping to scoop up scalped tickets to see U.S. Sen. Barack ... >

Randy Dorn
There are reasons there is an education gap in our school districts; the liberals have taken over this important sector of our economy and made it a complete shambles.
Backing a political hack like Randy Dorn isn't going to change that; in fact, it will make it much worse. The fact the teachers' unions don't like Terry Bergeson is a good reason to keep her on the job.
Terry is part of the problem, as well, don't get me wrong! At least she is the only candidate willing to stand up to the teachers' unions makes her someone to vote for, and against Dorn, who is a handpicked candidate of these anti-education unions.
ANYBODY but Bergeson!!
Best candidate for SPI?? ENID DUNCAN!! Go to www.enidduncan.com. You can also find her at MySpace.com!!
2nd best candidate? Randy Dorn. He is interested in using the MAPS system (a good educational tool) for WA State education.
Worst candidate? The Incumbent, Terry Bergeson (aka TB)!!
WA State needs a "TB" Vaccination ASAP!!
Bergeson is the REASON our state's education is sooo messed up! She hired her mentor, Robert Carkhuff, to DESIGN the WASL and the educational system based on his New 3 R's of Relating, Reasoning and Representing.
Go to www.thefactsaboutWAedreform.org for the REAL TRUTH about the WASL, Bergeson, Carkhuff, the OSPI, and Theosophy (a cult-based "religion").
Dorn is not the right person for this post
I've met Rany Dorn and he is not prepared to lead this state educational system. He reminds me of a used care salesman (not that there is something wrong with that). I am part of WEA and a state Democrat and I am ashamed to be associated with both groups because they endorse Mr. Dorn for this important post.
I've also met our current superintendent and she has a passion, soul and character to continue leading WA St educational community through the next few years. She didn't design the system, she is just working as hard as she can within it.
I hope Teri knows there are many of us in the educational community who understand the great work she has done for the students of Washington State. The WASL has been a great tool to move people forward in a positive direction.
re: Here's the Verdict
Tattatu,
How exactly is the decline of education the Republicans' fault? I can see blaming Terry - and even the governor (whom has been a democrat for decades), but the Repubcians are in the minority in this state - how can you blame them? The logical thing to do would be to blame the people in power and the people that put them there (either by voting them in or not voting at all).
Here's the Verdict
A third of teenagers drop out of high school.
Half the college freshman take remedial math.
40% of seniors can't pass the math wasl. The wasl has an eighth grade bar.
80% of high schoolers will be finishing with something less than a high school diploma, called an 'American' diploma. A diploma that is aligned to the Achieve Standard - so these kids will take classes like integrated math and authentic algebra. They will go to vocational school.
Thanks to Bergeson and Republicans, Washington is now resegregated. We spent millions realigning standards so kids can go to vocational school.
You have support programs that boast 17% graduation rates and 90% annual student turnovers.
Don't forget millions spent on flakes like McCune, Carkhuff, and the Dana Center.
Fascinating how one person could do so much damage in just twelve years. Washington will never get out from under this conservative hegemony.
