Mayor Nickels Elected as a Washington State Delegate for Obama
Elected at State Convention in Spokane as a Party Leader & Elected Official (PLEO)

SEATTLE- At the Washington State Democratic Convention in Spokane on Sunday, Mayor Greg Nickels was elected as a Party Leader & Elected Official (PLEO) delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver.  Nickels will be a pledged delegate for Senator Barack Obama.

"This will be the first Democratic National Convention I've attended in my 36 years in politics -- I have been waiting for the right moment and the right candidate, and as Senator Obama has said, our moment is now." said Nickels. "I am honored to represent Seattle at the national convention and am excited to do what I can to elect Barack Obama as our next president."

Mayor Nickels was one of seven PLEO delegates chosen by a committee of 34 already-pledged delegates for Obama who were elected last month during the Democratic Party's congressional caucuses.  Combined with the other at-large delegates selected at the convention, delegates already pledged to Hillary Clinton and the state's super-delegates, Nickels will be joining a delegation from Washington State that is 97 strong this August in Denver.

The other PLEO delegates pledged to Obama elected at the convention include Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles (D-36th), Senator Chris Marr (D-6th), Representative Dave Upthegrove (D-33rd), Spokane County Democrats' Chair Kristine Reeves, Precinct Committee Officer Shanna Sawatzki, and Clark Country Commissioner Steve Stuart.
