The two state representatives in the 40th Legislative District, Rep. Dave Quall (D-Mt. Vernon) and Rep. Jeff Morris (D-Anacortes) have now both weighed in on their choice for the open seat being vacated by long-serving state Sen. Harriet Spanel in the 40th Legislative District, and they have agreed to disagree.
The two are splitting the endorsements between Democratic frontrunners Kevin Ranker (D-San Juan Island) and Ken Henderson (D-Bellingham). This past Friday Quall announced that he is backing Henderson, and on week earlier Morris threw his weight behind Ranker.
Quall cited Henderson's experience in community service and humanitarian work for his choice.
"Ken Henderson has gained my confidence and support, from his impeccable track record of service to Bellingham and Whatcom county, to his humanitarian medical work for children in ‘third world' countries," Quall said in a press release. "Ken has proven that he is committed to the people in the communities of the 40th district and those who are less fortunate in communities everywhere."
Morris, the Speaker Pro Tempore of the House, also spoke to Ranker's experience for his choice and also pointed to Ranker's support among 40th LD Democrats having been chosen as the district's official nominee and sole endorsee.
"I know that Kevin will hit the ground running for the people of the Whatcom, Skagit, and San Juan Counties," Morris said in a release. "Kevin offers the right mix of experience, proven leadership on the issues, and a passion for our families and communities. I am impressed with his strong grass roots campaign, the overwhelming endorsement from local Democrats, and commitment to public service."
