House Democratic challengers win July fund race

Two of the state's Democratic challengers for U.S. House seats ended the month of July having raised more money than the Republican incumbent they are running against. And it's not the first time for either.

8th District Democrat Darcy Burner raised $350,837 in the month of July, much of it on the strength of a national ActBlue outreach after she and her family lost their home to a fire at the beginning of the month, more than triple that of Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) who brought in $115,474, the Times is reporting.

Burner also continues to lead Reichert in cash on hand roughly $1,477,000 to $929,000. That count, however, does not include Burner's recent ad buy which was in the hundreds of thousands. The contribution total so far for the entire campaign has been $2.3 million for Burner and $1.8 million for Reichert.

In Central Washington's 4th District, the Tri-City Herald reports that Kennewick Democrat George Fearing edged Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Pasco) $36,900 to $35,500 in July. Hastings, however, has a nearly insurmountable cash on hand advantage with $342,489 to Fearing's $48,146.
