Delegates prepared to nominate a candidate

DENVER - "Who is smarter, them or you?"

That was how Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz kicked off this morning's sparsely populated breakfast meeting which began just a few hours after last night's delegation reception, referring to the absent delegates who were presumably still getting their beauty sleep upstairs. Within forty-five minutes most of the delegates had filed in, but it was certainly a slow start to the morning.

Pelz also mentioned that today would be the last day that he would be wearing a tie, and also the last day he would be going hatless. Tomorrow's forecast is for clear skies and warm weather in the outdoor venue for Sen. Barack Obama's nomination acceptance speech.

Word on the street also says that the nominating vote for Barack Obama will be the first thing on the agenda at today's convention, which begins at 3 PM local time, which is causing the delegates to think long and hard about their daytime plans so they can be sure to get to the Pepsi Center with time to spare.
