Race for retiring Spanel's seat gets crowded

With the entry of former Republican State Rep. Steve Van Luven into the race to succeed retiring State Sen. Harriet Spanel, the field becomes more and more crowded by the day.

This past weekend Kevin Ranker (D-San Juan Island) joined teh fray and the week before that it was Democrats Hue Beattie and Ken Henderson. A number of other names have swirled around the rumor mill, and some sources say when all is said and done the race could have nearly ten candidates for the solidly liberal seat.
