Two House challengers outraise incumbents in Q1

Two of Washington's contested House races saw some unusual figures when the 1st Quarter fundraising numbers were released yesterday. What was so unusual? The challenger outraised the incumbent.

In what has been a highly publicized fundrace Darcy Burner brought in a significantly higher amount of money than Rep. Dave Reichert in the 8th. Burner's $522k bested Reichert's $331k by nearly two hundred thousand dollars, which coincidentally is more than the $165k the state's third highest Q1 collector, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers raised.  Even better news for Burner is that she has more cash on hand than Reichert, with nearly a million dollars in the bank. Reichert has just under $700,000.

But the biggest suprise is in the 4th District where challenger George Fearing brought in more than Rep. Doc Hastings. Fearing took in $38,500, about $6000 more than Hastings' $32,500. On the bright side for Hastings, he has an overwhelming lead in cash on hand, with $227,000 compared with Fearing's $36,000.
