Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike Endorses Kevin Ranker
Popular local leader joins long list of local leaders in support of Ranker
Mount Vernon—Democratic Nominee Kevin Ranker today added another prominent endorsement to his growing list of support throughout the 40th legislative district.
Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike endorses Ranker, a San Juan County Councilmember who has won not only the nomination but the sole endorsement of the local Democratic Party, the conservation community, unions and teachers. In the last week, Kevin Ranker has also been endorsed by Pike’s mayoral opponent, Dan McShane, Equal Rights Washington, and Bellingham City Councilwoman Barbara Ryan.
Pike’s endorsement comes at a critical time, when ballots are in the hands of voters and awareness of the August primary is reaching an early peak.
“In a race with several good candidates, Kevin Ranker stands out,” Pike said. “Kevin has the skills needed to deal with the mundane, but also articulates a vision which unites us in creating new solutions to intractable problems instead of continuing to force old approaches.”
Ranker, who has more local endorsements from all three counties in the 40th legislative district, welcomed the support.
“Dan Pike is a true citizen leader,” said Ranker, who has worked for 15 years as an economic development professional in addition to regional work on behalf of coastal communities throughout Washington State. “He understands that the challenges we face are not going to be solved by recycling the same old ideas. We need new leadership and a passion for public service to get results for our economy, school, and environment.”
Ranker has also recently won the support of the Boeing Machinists Union, SEIU Locals 775 and 925 and other unions representing thousands of workers in the region. He is the leader in fundraising and endorsements leading up to the August 19 primary.
