Former Candidate Stephanie Kountouros Endorses Ken Henderson.

Bellingham-Former 40th LD senate candidate and grassroots/community organizer Stephanie Kountouros has endorsed Ken Henderson. Stephanie is well known for her strong stance on social justice issues and participation as a Washington State Democratic platform representative. As a community coordinator she was credited as leading on of the most well organized and effective Obama county campaigns in the nation. Kountouros’ endorsement comes at a pinnacle time in the campaign season. Voters just received mail-in ballots this week and many wonder who is the best choice to replace long serving, Senator Harriet Spanel.

“As a grassroots coordinator, I value representatives who can understand issues from multiple perspectives and work hard to represent multiple interests. Ken best represents those values. I see in Ken Henderson a long-standing commitment to human rights including his work with the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force. Henderson’s past support of local non-profits including Sean Humphrey House and Planned Parenthood show that his dedication to social justice is firm. As a social worker, I know that relationship building is a crucial skill for the legislature. While all of our candidates in this race are strong, Ken Henderson has the skills to build genuine, lasting bonds in Olympia.”

“Stephanie has been an asset to the 40th LD senate race. She brought to the race a strong grassroots social justices perspective I admire. I am very pleased to receive her endorsement and hope she and I can work together for strong social justice positions in Olympia,” stated Henderson

In addition to the Stephanie Kountouros’ endorsement, Henderson has gained the endorsement of former candidates Steve Hopley, Paul Gonzales and Scott McMullen.

Ken Henderson, 59, practiced optometry for 25 years in Bellingham, Lynden and Eastsound. Ken possesses a progressive approach to long term solutions. He has extensive community and government service in a broad range of areas from health care, community planning, aging and mental health, and environmental protection. Ken is a graduate of Skagit Valley College, Western Washington University and Pacific University. He served on the Whatcom County Council, Bellingham Planning Commission, United Way board, and a number of other government and community organizations. Ken has been a strong advocate for parks in the area, serving eight years on the Whatcom County Parks Board, as president of the Whatcom Parks and Recreation Foundation and is currently serving on the Deception Pass State Park Advisory Board. Ken has been providing health care for economically disadvantaged patients locally in his practice and in medical missions to Central America for many years. Ken is a Vietnam veteran and has been married to his wife Janet Stoupa of Mount Vernon, for 33 years and they have two adult children.
