Many Democratic Candidates on the Ballot-40th LD Senate

August 18, 2008 Press Release For Immediate Release Contact: Jedediah Smart 360.715.1366   Many Democratic Candidates on the 40th LD Senate Ballot   With only a few days left before Primary ballots must be turned in, it is important to let voters know that there will be several candidates on the ballot that are marked as Democratic candidates for the 40th LD Senate seat, being vacated by Harriet Spanel. Two of these candidates on the ballot are Stephanie Kountouros and Paul Gonzales. Both of these candidates have withdrawn from the race and have asked their supporters to cast their vote for Ken Henderson. Retiring 40th LD Senator Harriet Spanel, has also voiced her sole endorsement for Ken Henderson for the primary election. Long serving 40th LD Rep Dave Quall, of Mount Vernon has also asked supporters to cast their vote for Ken Henderson. Additionally, there is one independent candidate, Steve Hopley (Anacortes Port Commissioner) who also dropped from the race and will not appear on the ballot. He had been actively campaigning, but chose to drop back and subsequently endorsed Ken Henderson. With overwhelming endorsements from the retiring Senator and long serving senior Representative, as well as from all of the major candidates that have withdrawn from the race, it is evident that the leadership skills and character of Ken Henderson have proven to be the strongest over other candidates currently running in the 40th LD Senate Race. Additionally, Ken Henderson has recently received the endorsement of the Bellingham Herald Editorial Board. This multi-member board announced that Henderson is the best replacement for Spanel in the Senate. This sentiment is shared by over two-dozen former and current appointed/elected officials and hundreds of civically engaged citizens.
