The fundraiser scheduled for today with Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona, has been canceled, the AP is reporting.
This marks the second major change for the event, which was to take place in Bellevue. It was originally scheduled for vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska). Shortly after its announcement, though, Palin's schedule was changed and Mrs. McCain was brought in as a surrogate.
Earlier today Sen. McCain postponed his campaign to work on the nation's looming financial crisis.
UPDATE: It turns out that the AP report, citing McCain spokesman Rick Gorka, was incorrect. The Seattle Times reports that the event did go on as planned, and even included Palin's husband, Todd.
This comes despite the campaign's claim that it was "suspending" operations, including fundraising, in order to deal with the Wall Street crisis.
The event was closed to the media.
