Gov candidates air closing campaign ads: Gregoire

Gov. Chris Gregoire concluded her campaign media season with an ad that focuses on her record and tries to display her opponent, Republican Dino Rossi, as out of touch with Washington state.

The spot, called “Every Morning”, makes a populist play in labeling Rossi as someone who would stand with the wealthy and the special interests over regular working folk. The special interst is a clear jab at Rossi’s relationship with the Building Industry Association of Washington, the builders group that spent millions on Rossi’s behalf.

Still it the ad spends much of its time on Gregoire’s claims of getting results.

“Even in tough times we’ve created jobs, improved ours schools and made our community safer,” Gregoire says.

Rossi ad ties Gregoire to state income tax

Dino Rossi's campaign for governor launched a new ad today called "Taxes" that seeks to paint Gregoire as a tax-raiser, and ties her to a state income tax.

Rossi's ad calls attention to a claim Gregoire made during her 2004 campaign about not raising taxes, which they claim she broke. The ad then plays a similar statement Gregoire made during this year's campaign and suggests she will raise taxes despite her statements.

The spot concludes with statements Gregoire made at the Spokesman-Review's editorial board meetings about a state income tax, which the narrator calls a bad idea before saying, "We can't afford Gregoire's taxing and spending."

NRCC frames Burner as tax-and-spend liberal

The National Republican Congressional Committee began running an ad today claiming that, while 8th District congressional candidate Darcy Burner says she will bring change to Congress, it is the wrong kind of change.

Specifically, they use the ad to paint her as a "tax and spend" politician, and say she wants higher taxes and bigger government.

"Darcy Burner likes to talk about ‘change' on the campaign trail, but while middle class families continue to struggle, she is offering up nothing more than the failed tax-and-spend policies of the past," said NRCC press secretary Ken Spain.
