UPDATED: Rossi ad hits back on stem cell issue, Dems respond

Dino Rossi's campaign for governor has launched a new ad disputing Gov. Chris Gregoire's recent advertisements and debate statements on the issue of stem cell research.

The new Rossi ad shows him calling the latest ads against him deceptive and he states his support for stem cell research. This is followed by an announcer calling Gregoire's 2004 plan for a stem cell research a lie, and her use of the issue a political ploy.

The negative spot Rossi refers to, which shows a crying mother questioning his position, does not specifically mention Rossi's opposition to embryonic stem cell research. He is for the use of adult stem cells.

UPDATE: The ad is running statewide.

Larsen launches second radio ad

Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Arlington) is on the air in Northwest Washington's 2nd Congressional District with his second radio advertisement of the campaign. The new ad is a 60-second spot on high fuel prices and Larsen's votes in congress to reduce prices by stopping price gouging by oil companies.

Larsen's first ad focused on his work toward expanding veterans health care services in the 2nd District. His opponent, Arlington Republican Rick Bart, has yet to go on the air and after a promising start has run into money woes, even ending the second quarter in the red before raising enough in July to pay off hid debts.

BIAW to take the airwaves on Rossi's behalf

The Seattle P-I is reporting that the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW), an interest group that has endorsed Republican Dino Rossi in his re-match against Gov. Chris Gregoire, will be airing the gubernatorial campaign's first set of advertisements on the radio in the coming days. The report states that the BIAW has purchased $155,000 worth of advertising so far.

Kelly Steele, spokesman for the state Democrats, told the P-I, "This is no surprise. Republican Dino Rossi's political career has been built from the ground up by the BIAW -- the most powerful Olympia special interest lobbyists in Washington state. Rossi's goons have spent millions on attack ads that are lies and distortions, and we expect nothing less in 2008, as they pay Rossi back for carrying their water in Olympia by supporting their agenda 99% of the time over his career."
