Live blog update: On second thought...

The debate is moving quickly, with extremely limited commercial breaks. What does that mean? No live blog. But please check back shortly after the debate for a recap of the night's events.

So far the candidates have disagreed on nearly everything, including the so-called "facts".

Pre-debate update, party spin

Greetings and happy Saturday evening!

PolitickerWA.com will be live blogging tonight's gubernatorial debate from The Oyster House in Olympia, the only establishment in town kind enough to grant us with a television set and, more importantly, volume.

If you are unable to watch the debate, which airs on KOMO-4 Seattle at 9 P.M., keep checking back at PolitickerWA.com for updates on the first debate of the season.

In the meantime, the different sides want to remind viewers of a few things. Republicans point interested parties to the fact that Gregoire dropped her 2004 campaign promise of starting a state-funded stem cell research facility six weeks into her term, and the Democrats sent out a full-fledged press release translating what they believe Rossi will try to say tonight.

Gov. race in YouTube spotlight

Gov. Chris Gregoire and Dino Rossi will have their first debate forum on the internet later this month, as part of a YouTube "citizentube" forum later this year.

The series, where users submit question via video and text for the candidates to answer, is featuring some of the nation's top races. So far they have done this forum for Minnesota's U.S. senate race between Republican Sen. Norm Coleman and Democratic challenger Al Franken. Gregoire-Rossi, which is compared in the teaser to some of the great boxing matches, real and fictional, of the last forty years, is the second debate in the series.

Questions must be submitted by August 12, and the top five will be chosen.

LD 36 debate preview

John BurbankJohn BurbankThe three candidates running to replace the retiring Democratic Rep. Helen Sommers in Seattle's 36th Legislative District, Republican Leslie Bloss and Democrats John Burbank and Reuven Carlyle, will meet tonight at 7 P.M. at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard for a debate sponsored by the Municipal League Foundation.

On the Democratic side, where voting history suggests both Democrats will move beyond the "top two" primary, the race in the 36th has been one of the state's most heated. Fundraising numbers have been among the highest in the state and candidates joke that it is the only state-level legislative position that requires a foreign policy.

The stakes will continue to be high tonight with three weeks remaining until the Aug. 19 primary and each candidate looking to build momentum with a strong showing, and hoping to use tonight's debate as an opportunity to show voters what separates them from the field.
