Hooley staffer looking for spot on Burner campaign

Now that U.S. Rep. Darlene Hooley (D-Ore.) is retiring, her chief of staff Joan Evans is desperate to find work, and she apparently is trying to score a position on Darcy Burner's (D-Carnation) campaign so she can stay close to Oregon, where her husband lives and works for the governor. Evans reached out to U.S. Rep. and Democratic Caucus chair Rahm Emmanuel (D-Ill.), who is trying to make a deal.

Evans previously tried reaching out to the Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.) campaign for the seat being vacated by Hooley, but they wanted nothing to do with her -- possibly because of her reputation for having a bad temper with her staff and an unprofessional demeanor when dealing with constituents. She was also alleged to have been spending Hooley's campaign funds for her own personal use to make trips out to Oregon to visit her husband.

Many in Oregon aren't shedding any tears over Evans' potential departure from the state. Perhaps she'll have better luck with Burner.

Darcy isn't qualified - last thing she needs is controversy

One of the reasons Darcy is struggling is because very few people believe she is qualified and that she really isn't someone who understands the District. She lives out in the woods and hasn't worked for years. Has never been on a single community board PTA, city council etc and her only claim to fame is getting hired at her husbands company and then never being promoted in her 6 years working there.

Adding someone from Oregon would essentially kill her changes of even tying. Many Obama supporters find Darcy disingenuous, awkward and bascially in it for her own agenda not to actually represent our needs. She is what we refer to as a "climber" and if she wasn't female wouldn't even be on the ticket.

Ridiculous Story

"I've Seen Her in Action Too," you really need to grow up.

You are obviously, by your comments, a current or former Hooley employee. You may well be a fine employee in many ways. But even if you are 100% right about Joan -- and you certainly are not, though I'm sure that Joan, like the rest of us, is not perfect -- you are 100% guilty of the worst offense in political work. You have been disloyal, not to Joan, but to the one your truly serve, Rep. Hooley.

How exactly does it help Darlene to air internecine conflict in the Hooley office in a public forum like "Wally Edge?" Don't you think it's hurtful for Darlene to see this stuff in print shortly before she retires? Joan was and is Hooley's choice, and you have been crapping publicly on your real boss. That is textbook disloyalty, no matter how you slice it.

Have a little class, reel in your bitterness, and allow your boss to retire from Congress the right way. In your next job, maybe you will get to be the boss and you will aspire to do a better job than Joan (and good luck with that).

Nasty article

I am a Hooley constituent. I have dealt with Joan a few times - all when making requests of Hooley's office. Joan has always been courteous, efficient, and effective. You should be ashamed of yourself for posting this nasty attack. You don't even have the respect to use your real name while doing so. Coward.

She's absolutely crazy

Joan Mooney Evans is one of the worst people I've encountered in politics. She makes false accusations regularly about people and then blames everyone around her (usually her staff) when she gets caught in her lies. She has a temper like no one else I've seen and should not be given ANY credit for Hooley maintaining her seat. That first comment sounds exactly like something Joan Evans would write herself. I'm disgusted.

Ridiculous Story

I've never worked for Joan, but have observed in her in action for many years. She did not ask me to post this, nor did I seek her permission.

There has been a low-grade bad-mouthing campaign conducted against Joan for many years, and much of it has come from a tiny faction in the district office who resented a having a DC person as their boss. And yes, Joan canned a couple of people over the years (on behalf of Rep. Hooley), and some of them never got over it and stay close to the anti-Joan faction. Now, as Joan prepares to turn the lights out on the Hooely office, that small faction, possibly with some new allies (Schrader insiders who want to be or pick the new Chief of Staff?), are yacking anonymously on blogs to try to make her radioactive. It's ugly, it's small, and it should not be trusted.

I certainly don't know all the details of the personnel decisions she and Congresswoman Hooley made over the years, but I agree with "Friends of Joan" that she deserves a ton of credit for helping Hooley hold that swing district. Joan is tough and smart, with really good political skiils. And I don't believe for a second that Joan has an unprofessional demeanor with constituents or her employees.

As for the charge leveled anonymously on this site -- that she improperly used campaign funds solely for personal purposes -- absent evidence, they are laughable. As long as her trips had a legitimate campaign purpose, it is immaterial whether she also enjoyed her husband's company on those trips. I've met Paul, he seems like a nice guy, and I sure hope he and Joan took full legal and conjugal advantage of every single district trip.

Finally, as for Joan being "desperate," I rather doubt it. Someone with her political skiils and experience will get snapped up pretty quickly in Congress.

There are a number of us who

There are a number of us who are stunned by this anonymous attack on Joan Evans.

To those who feel compelled to spew such venomous lies, you would do well to remember that Congresswoman Darlene Hooley has been able to hold a marginal seat for nearly twelve years due in part to the able assistance of her one and only chief of staff, Joan Evans.

We who know Joan know her to be kind, compassionate and thoughtful, not to mention whip-smart and politically savvy. Joan would never write anything like what the anonymous Mr. Edge has written about her about anyone.
