Washington's 24 year streak

The last time Washington cast their electoral votes for a Republican presidential candidate was in 1984, when Ronald Reagan captured 56% of the vote.  Of the fifty states, Minnesota has gone the longest without backing a Republican presidential candidate: the last time was in 1972.  It helped the Democrats that favorite son Walter Mondale was on the national ticket in 1976, 1980 and 1984.
